August, 2010 Archives

A couple of weeks ago we got a big group of local homeschooling families together to go for a hike. We picked the Ophir Creek Trail, in Davis Creek Park in the Washoe Valley. Looking back we probably could have picked a better trail, since this one went straight up the mountain and the kids (and the adults) didn’t last long. But it was still fun, and next time maybe we’ll pick a trail that’s more flat.

After the big blowout at the beach for Jack’s 3rd birthday, we had a smaller party at Grammy’s house a couple of days later, on his actual birthday. The Friday beach party was all about sun and fun, and the family party was all about presents and cake.

We made this cake and decorated it ourselves. Unfortunately, the frosting was gross and nobody ate it.

A quick nap break in the middle of the day. Even a birthday boy needs some sleep!

Since the Mickey Cake was so gross, we went out to the store and bought a professional one.

Hello Mickey Mouse? Yeah I had a great birthday!

Bye bye, gross Mickey cake!

For Jack’s 3rd birthday, we grabbed a spot on the beach at Lake Tahoe and invited a bunch of friends up. Round Hill Beach has a pier and a marina, and you can swim among the boats that are anchored in the bay. Two big boats, the Tahoe Star and Bleu Wave, call this port home. We brought sandwiches and sand toys, and the kids had a great time playing together. Paddleboats, kayaks, and cupcakes rounded out the day.
